What surprised you about your first job search?

The possibility of starting my job search early during training surprised me. I had amazing people mentoring me and knew my career goals, which allowed me to explore my options with no rush.

What’s your advice for residents beginning their job search?

Know what your priorities are in terms of the community you want to be part of. Networking with people in your prospective job and location can be very helpful determining if that place is a good fit.

What was the most important factor in your search?

Coming from a small town, I wanted to raise my kids with a similar upbringing. Finding an institution that respected me and my values in a safe, family-friendly area was the ideal.

How did you find your job?

I was exploring the PracticeLink website and was interested in a job opening they posted. I sent my CV for consideration and the recruiter reached out the following day to schedule a phone call. We talked for several months including video interviews, an in-person visit and follow-up calls.

How did PracticeLink help you in your job search?

I created my profile with PracticeLink by the end of my intern year. Initially, I just wanted to get a feel of the job market. I was positively impressed to find jobs out there that met my wants and needs.

Any other advice?

As cliché as it may sound, be yourself. Be upfront about your career interests and what you are looking for in a practice. •
